of the families Veliidae and Tingidae {Hemiptera)

Ahmet Omer Kocak 1 Muhabbet Kemal 2

Abstract: Nomenclatural notes on the genus group names of the families Veliidae and Tingidae

(Hemiptera). Priamus 12 (6): 151-152.

In this paper, following generic names are recorded as junior homonyms; therefore they are

considered as invalid names. These are: Haldwania Tamanini,i955 (Veliidae) (hom.n.), Idiostyla

Drake,i945 (Tingidae) (hom.n.), and Paragramma Lis, 2003 (Tingidae) (hom.n.). The

following names are proposed here as replacement names: Cesavelia (nom.n.), Tingicesa

(nom.n), and Lisia (nom.n.).

Key words: Hemiptera, Veliidae, Tingidae, nomenclature, India, China, Nepal, Vietnam, Brazil,

Argentina.

Within the frame of ongoing Project Entomofauna of the World by the Cesa, nomenclatural
studies on the order Hemiptera have been carrying out by the authors for four years. As a result of
this survey, in the family of Veliidae of Asia, and in the family Tingidae of South America, the
following generic names are recorded for the first time as junior homonyms: Haldwania
Tamanini,i955, Idiostyla Drake,i945, and Paragramma Lis, 2003. These names are evaluated
below nomenclaturally:

Veliidae

Velia (Cesavelia) nom. n.

The subgenus name, Haldwania Tamanini,i955 (Boll. Soc. ent. ital. 85: 35) is invalid as being
junior homonym of Haldwania Beier,i930 (Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. (10) 6: 440) (Mantodea).
According to the Code (ICZN)3, a junior homonym name cannot be used as valid name for a taxon.
However, this name is currently considered as valid subgenus name 4 in the genus Velia

here a replacement name, Cesavelia nom. n. for Haldwania Tamanini,i955 nee Beier,i930. The
proposed new name is a combination of the institutional name and the genus name.

Necessary name combinations are given below:

Velia (Cesavelia) championi Tamanini,i955 (comb.n.) India

Velia (Cesavelia) steelei Tamanini,i955 (comb.n.) India

Tingidae
Tingicesa nom.n.

The genus name, Idiostyla Drake,i945 (Bull. S. Calif. Acad. Sci. 44: 97) is invalid as being junior
homonym of Idiostyla Meyrick,i92i (Exot. microlepid. 2: 412) (Lepidoptera). According to the
Code (ICZN) 5 , a junior homonym name cannot be used as valid name for a taxon. However, this
name is currently considered as valid genus name 6 . There is no junior synonym of Idiostyla
Drake,i945; therefore we propose here a replacement name, Tingicesa nom. n. for Idiostyla
Drake, 1945 nee Meyrick,i92i. The proposed new name is a combination of the institutional name
and the family name.

Necessary name combinations are given below:

Lisia nom.n. (subgenus)

The subgenus name, Paragramma Lis, 2003 (Pol. Pismo Ent. 72 (3): 238) is invalid as being junior
homonym of Paragramma Warren,i905 (Novit. zool. 12, 424) (Lepidoptera). According to the
Code (ICZN)7, a junior homonym name cannot be used as valid name for a taxon. However, this
name is currently considered as valid genus name 8 . There is no junior synonym of Paragramma
Lis, 2003; therefore we propose here a replacement name, Lisia nom. n. for Paragramma Lis,
2003 nee Paragramma Warren,i905. The proposed new name is given to the original author for
her great contributions to the taxonomy of the family Tingidae.

of some families (Orthoptera)

Ahmet Omer Kocak 1 5 Muhabbet Kemal 16

Abstract: Nomenclatural notes on the genus group names of some families {Orthoptera). Priamus
12 (6): 155-156.

In this paper, following generic names are recorded as junior homonyms; therefore they are
considered as invalid names. These are: Smicrotes Desutter-Grandcolas,i992 (Gryllidae)
(hom.n.), Neomorpha Desutter-Grandcolas,i988 (Gryllidae) (hom.n.), and Machaira Toledo
Piza,i958 (Tettigoniidae) (hom.n.). The following names are proposed here as replacement
names: Grandcolasia (nom.n.), Cearacesa (nom.n), and Amazonicesa (nom.n.). Besides, a
replacement name of a tribe in the family Gryllidae, Cearacesaini nom.n. is also proposed.
Key words: Orthoptera, Gryllidae, Tettigoniidae, nomenclature, Brazil, Peru.

Within the frame of ongoing Project Entomofauna of the World by the Cesa, nomenclatural
studies on the order Orthoptera have been carrying out by the authors for a long time. As a result
of this survey, in the families Gryllidae and Tettigoniidae, the following generic names are
recorded for the first time as junior homonyms: Smicrotes Desutter-Grandcolas,i992, Neomorpha
Desutter-Grandcolas,i988, Machaira Toledo Piza,i958. These names are evaluated below
nomenclaturally.

Gryllidae
Luzarinae
Grandcolasia nom. n.

The genus name, Smicrotes Desutter-Grandcolas,i992 (Bull. Soc. Ent. Fr. 96 (5): 458) is
invalid as being junior homonym of Smicrotes Clemens, i860 (Proc. Acad. nat. Sci. Philad. i860:
355) (Lepidoptera). According to the Code (ICZN) 1 ?, a junior homonym name cannot be used as
valid name for a taxon. However, this name is currently considered as valid genus name. 18 There is
no junior synonym of Smicrotes Desutter-Grandcolas,i992; therefore, we propose here a
replacement name, Grandcolasia nom. n. for Smicrotes Desutter-Grandcolas,i992 nee
Clemens, i860. The new name is given to the author of the pre-occupied genus name, due to his
valuable contributions to the Orthopterology.

Necessary name combination is given below:

Grandcolasia bora (Desutter-Grandcolas,i992) (comb.n.) Peru.

Gryllidae
Hapithinae
Cearacesa nom.n.

However, this name is currently considered as valid genus name. 20 There is no junior synonym of
Neomorpha Desutter-Grandcolas,i988; therefore, we propose here a replacement name,
Cearacesa nom. n. for Neomorpha Desutter-Grandcolas,i988 nee Gould,i837. The proposed new
name is a combination of the institutional name and the geographical name.

Necessary name combinations are given below:
Cearacesa cearensis (Rehn.,1917) (comb.n.) Brazil, Ceara.
Cearacesa nova (Rehn,i9i7) (comb.n.) Brazil, Paraiba.

Due to the homonymy of the type-genus Neomorpha Desutter-Grandcolas,i988, the tribe name
Neomorphini Desutter-Grandcolas,i988 cannot be used validly. Therefore, a replacement name
Cearacesaini nom.n. is also proposed here with the type-genus: Cearacesa Kogak & Kemal.

Tettigoniidae
Conocephalinae
Amazonicesa nom.n.

The genus name, Machaira Toledo Piza,i958 (Studia ent. (N.S.). 1: 463) is invalid as being

for a taxon. However, this name is currently considered as valid genus name. 22 There is no junior
synonym of Machaira Toledo Piza,i958; therefore, we propose here a replacement name,
Amazonicesa nom. n. for Machaira Toledo Piza,i958 nee Brauer & Bergenstamm,[i889]. The
proposed new name is a combination of the institutional name and the geographical name.

Necessary name combination is given below:

Ahmet Oilier Kocak47 Muhabbet KemaH 8

Abstract: Nomenclatural notes on the genus group names of Melyridae (Coleoptera). Priamus 12

(6): 160-161.

In this paper, following generic names are recorded as junior homonyms; therefore they are

considered as invalid names. These are: Dasythrix Majer,i996 (hom.n.), Euthrix Majer,i996

(hom.n.), Neothrix Majer,ig8g (hom.n.). The following names are proposed here as replacement

names: Nevruzia (nom.n.), Ergenekonia (nom. n.), Majeria (nom. n.). The new combinations

are: Nevruzia flavoniger (Majer,i99i) (comb.n.), Majeria aspericollis (Champion,i925)

(comb.n.), Ergenekonia lata (Majer,i996) (comb.n.), Ergenekonia sulcicollis (Majer,i996)

(comb.n.).

Key words: Coleoptera, Melyridae, nomenclature, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran.

Within the frame of ongoing Project Entomofauna of the World by the Cesa, nomenclatural
studies on the order Coleoptera have been carrying out by the authors for a long time. As a result
of this survey, in the families Melyridae, the following generic names are recorded for the first
time as junior homonyms: Dasythrix Majer,i996, Neothrix Majer,i989, and Euthrix Majer,i996.
These names are evaluated below nomenclaturally.
